About the Airport

The Elko Regional Airport (EKO or Airport) is a thriving, primary commercial service airport serving the aviation demand of northeast Nevada. The airport is located on approximately 700 acres of land a mile west of downtown Elko and features two runways: Runway 6/24 measuring 7,457 x 150 ft.; and Runway 12/30 measuring 3,012 x 60 ft.

EKO currently has one airline with commercial service that serves 36,000 passengers a year, and also provides medical flights, firefighting air service, general aviation, and corporate aviation.

About the Focused Planning Study

The Focused Planning Study is being undertaken as a follow-on study to the 2016 Airport Master Plan. The Focused Planning Study will provide a more detailed and in-depth analysis of certain airport design standards with a focus on the runway and taxiway system. The plan will benefit all residents of the area by providing a single, comprehensive plan, which supports and balances airfield safety, continued growth of aviation activities, and the environmental preservation of the surrounding environs.

Currently, the airfield does not fully meet FAA design standards in several locations. This study will first document the baseline condition with an emphasis on the existing non-standard conditions. Then, a variety of development alternatives will be presented that will either remove the non-standard condition or mitigate it to the greatest extent practical.
